CHURCHES

S. Giorgio church

Bagolino principal church commands the whole village, which seems to be gathered around at its foot.
The faзade, massive, is bell-shaped decorated with simple graffitos, interrupted just by a triple lanced window and has got an elegant pronaos composed by seven archs giving a striking effect of solidity in the higher part and of vacuum in the lower part.
Bagolino - Chiesa di S. GiorgioIt is probably perceivable in the taste Venice influence.
The bell-tower, raised in 1681 took place of a previous one rising at side of the right entrance and ends with a cupola leaning on an octagonal tambour.
From anonymous paintings and form other by Moreschi you can see that the summit ended up with a high steeple, probably destroyed by the 1779 fire.
The whole inside part is  to be visited and here you can find precious works by masters:Tiziano, Tintoretto, Palma il Giovane, Torbido, Sandrini, Lucchese.

S.Rocco church

Bagolino - Chiesa di S. RoccoThe oldest part of the church is the presbytery containing a frescos cycle by Pietro da Cemmo.
A legend tells it was built on the ruines of an Etrurian temple.
The entire structure of the church was built as a consequence of a votive offering by S. Rocco after the 1577 pest.
S. Gennaro's  altar  contains a painting by Cacetti, a painter from Bologna.
In the niche just opposite there's a paint by Anna Baldissera portrayng  S. Carlo Borromeo with young S. Giovita and Faustino.
The altarpiece of S. Rocco is composed by different ages elements.
The painting portraying the Immacolata is a work by Clemente Bordiga a painter from Bagolino, who lived in 1600.
Interesting is the sight of the village between Ss Rocco and Francesco.

Bagolino cemetery

Bagolino - CimiteroGoing further  the same way you can reach the cemetery, on of the first built after the Edict by Napoleon.
Striking are the family-chapels in neo-gothic style commending the main road.
The only one in granite is of a sober and elegant style.
Inside there's a great deal of wrought iron crosses, a real witness of the importance of working on iron in Bagolino.

Bagolino Carnival

Bagolino - Carnevale
The origins of the Carnival in Bagolino, what musics and dances concerns, may be dated back to the XVI century; older, on the other hand, seem to be the origin of the "Maschèr".
The most charming aspect of the Carnival is represented by the "Balarì" with their coloured and unique fancy dresses.
The other side of the Carnival is represented by the Maschèr, who disguised as old man, or old woman in their falsetto voices, enjoy themselves making jokes  without making themselves recognized.
The dancings of the Carnival may be referable to the ones danced in the wonderful local luxury palais .
The Carnival of Bagolino keeps intact its independent spirit and the extravagance of its complex ceremonial, and in this way it keeps even nowadays being a celebration in which Bagolino identifies itself and deepen involving the whole village.
The display take place each year , every Sunday, Monday and Shrove Tuesday.
